Talbot Special Riders would not exist without the help of our wonderful volunteers. Except for two certified instructors and a therapist, the entire program is run by a dedicated group of volunteers. The volunteer does not have to be a “horse person” to help or have experience with diasabled persons. Training is provided. You are welcome to observe the program to see what it is all about.
We have constant turnover, so we are always seeking new help. Some apply their horsemanship skills, while others who are not experienced with horses perform other duties that ultimately benefit our riders.
Volunteers are needed to assist in these ways:
Horseleaders – Leading and grooming and tacking the horse.
Sidewalkers – Welcome our riders and get them ready to ride. They walk alongside the riders giving directions, support, etc.
There are two main sessions each year in the spring and the fall with shorter summer and winter sessions. The main sessions are conducted on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30 AM until Noon for 10 weeks. There is also an after-school program on Tuesdays from 3-5:30 PM. Volunteers select the time frame that best fits their schedule. We have a minimum age of 14 for volunteers.
The program is conducted at Glendale Farm, 30485 Matthewstown Road (Rt. 328) in Easton -
just 3 miles east of Route 50.
You will learn to appreciate our disabled riders, as well as make new friends. You will also gain tremendous satisfaction from watching
the riders improve physically, mentally, and emotionally. Best of all, you
will be making life brighter for these special people.
SPRING SESSIONS BEGINS MARCH 27 & 29, 2012.
